"Just for Me" Tablerunner

I recently designed and finished this little runner for my kitchen table. It gave me a chance to do some machine applique and I finished it off with my signature "free-hand" feather quilting.
Block of the Month Beauty
Here is an incredible quilt pieced and appliqued by Abby W. from New York state. She said it took a year and a half to complete the top. I’m not surprised. She did a wonderful job! The pattern was a block of the month offered a couple of years ago on The Quilt Show (with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims) on the Internet. It was designed by Sue Garman.
I did my best to compliment the top with combination of straight line quilting , stitch in the ditch, and freehand flowers, leaves and feathers. It took a while, but the results were worth it. The back side (last pic) looks like a whole cloth whitework quilt!

Is it too early for Fall? I love pumpkins anytime!

So why am I quilting pumpkins in June? Well, this block design has been going around in my head for weeks. I love the Fall colors and pumpkins. And since our guild bi-annual quilt show is this October, I thought a pumpkin quilt would be just the thing. So I thought I would start by making one block and see how it goes.
The pumpkin itself is pieced from strips to make it scrappy. I created the stem and the black “border” (really a block within a block) with improvisational piecing to give it a wonky look. I used machine applique (with a wide satin stitch) for the leaf and vine. I also had some fun with the machine quilting.
This small wall hanging will go in the silent auction at the show.

At Study in Color and Value
Pieced by Judi Y. This is from a pattern by quilt teacher Annie Smith. What's not readily apparent is that all the blocks are pieced exactly the same. The only difference is in the value (lightness and darkness) and color used in different parts of the block.
Solids really show off the quilting. This one was so fun to do.
The multicolored thread really pops!

Another pieced and appliqued by Kathy H. This is from a pattern by Edyta Sitar.

Memory Quilt
Sue wanted to honor her father who had recently passed away with a quilt made with some of his suits. Her friend, Brenda, did a great job selecting a coordinating floral print and piecing a top that would works nicely with the mostly gray wool. I added quilted feathers and leaves. With custom quilting, this quilt really comes alive and no doubt will be cherished and enjoyed for years and years.
The back almost looks as good as the front!
